Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Coronation Street is promising a super September, with secrets exposed, a popular character bowing out, and a nail-biting court trial to look forward to.

The show's producer Iain MacLeod recently shared plenty of gossip over what's to come this month, and just in case you've missed the individual news stories, we're rounding up all the key information here in one place.

1. Imran's death is finally explained

Corrie has kept us guessing over the truth behind Imran's death since June, with even a flashback scene leaving out the crucial moment that Toyah crashed their car.

Toyah has always denied suspicions that she caused the fatal incident on purpose, but next week's episodes see her share the full story in a heart-to-heart with Spider.

Iain MacLeod recently told Digital Spy and other press: "Toyah reaches this huge emotional crisis point, where she's got this burning desire to repent or just find some kind of catharsis.

What to Read Next

"Toyah ends up unburdening herself entirely to Spider, talking in detail for the first time about what went on behind the wheel of that car, to what extent or not she feels culpable for what happened to Imran, how much of it was an accident and how much was it deliberate."

2. Spider's secret is revealed

Toyah currently sees Spider as the most trustworthy person in her life, but she's potentially making a big mistake by confiding in him about the crash.

The show is teasing that a "shocking" secret will be revealed about Spider, which will explain why he's the last person Toyah should be turning to.

MacLeod cryptically shared: "I can't say a great deal more than that at this point, but the idea is that she's head over heels in love with this guy again and has reconnected with him instantly on his return to the street. She feels like he's her one true friend in the world.

"She might not be wrong, but she's certainly making a huge mistake in confiding all of this to him, for reasons that will become apparent."

3. Toyah goes on trial

Toyah's trial takes place in episodes airing on Wednesday, September 14 and Friday, September 16.

Toyah's state of mind will become a cause for concern during the case, as her loved ones start to wonder whether she could jeopardise her own chances of walking free.

MacLeod explained: "Toyah is on self-destruct by the time she gets up in the witness box.

"When Toyah gets up in that courtroom, there's every possibility that she might just hit self-destruct in some kind of desire to atone for her sins.

"The trial's dangerous and oddly enough, the two most dangerous things in it are Toyah's desire to set fire to her own life, and Spider's surprising level of threat when he discovers what Toyah claims she's done in that car."

4. Gary's secret is finally revealed

One of the longest-running soap timebombs is Gary's guilt in the case of Rick's murder. It was only a few months ago that the plot appeared to have been tied up for the foreseeable future, with Kelly's mum Laura falsely taking the blame before her tragic death.

However, with Kelly now leaving the show, Corrie's team have decided to revisit the storyline while she's still around to react to the truth.

MacLeod said: "Gary has to retrace his steps back into the forest of doom, where he once fought for his life with Kelly's dad Rick Neelan. It's a really brilliant tying up and full stop on that story, which began with that desperate act from Gary all those years ago.

"At times we've toyed with blowing it all up and revealing the full secret to everybody. But, finding ourselves in a position where we're having to exit Kelly, it just means it's now or never."

5. Kelly leaves in spectacular scenes

Corrie bosses spared no expense with Kelly's final scenes, hiring a volume wall (a bigger-budget version of a green screen, often used in Hollywood movies) for an upcoming rooftop sequence.

We already know that Kelly gets targeted by criminals – again – before she leaves. Could her life be in danger up on that roof?

MacLeod teased: "What we've done is create this incredible rooftop sequence with a twinkling cityscape behind it, so that we can do things that you could never normally do in a location shoot.

"You can put real actors in what appears to be very real danger without using stunt performers. We created this incredibly cinematic sequence for the set piece of this week, which I'm incredibly excited about."

6. Stephen and Jenny's secret is exposed

Jenny is looking ahead to a happy future with Leo following their recent engagement, but she may not be able to forget her recent kiss with Stephen so easily.

This is one Corrie secret that will be exposed sooner rather than later, and it sounds like the fallout will be much bigger than anyone is currently expecting.

Promising major drama to come, MacLeod shared: "Well, obviously, secrets never stay buried in soap for very long, do they? Or sometimes they do stay buried for quite a while, but they always come out in the end. So inevitably this secret will come out too.

"It will all go off in fairly spectacular fashion across the month of September, with long-lasting consequences for the whole show, really."

7. Stephen's bad behaviour gets worse

Stephen has been named as Corrie's next big villain, who could potentially be causing trouble on the cobbles for years to come.

Viewers have already seen Stephen get sneaky in his desperate desire to solve his financial problems, but the extent of his bad behaviour will only escalate as time goes on.

MacLeod said: "Stephen is a fish out of water and doesn't quite belong there, which I think will contribute to some of the behaviours we'll see from him in the coming months and possibly years.

"Our viewers are so canny as well. As soon as he arrived, everyone was like: 'Ah, I've got him marked. He's going to be a wrong'un'. And they'll be proved to be right in no small measure."

8. The Bailey family get a new member

Dee Dee Bailey has often been mentioned since her family joined the cobbles in 2019, but viewers will finally get to meet her towards the end of September.

Channique Sterling-Brown has been cast in the role of Dee Dee, who'll be bringing plenty of fun to Weatherfield.

MacLeod promised: "You can expect a certain amount of chaos. She's got an incredibly big heart. She's incredibly competent at her job, but you'd never guess that to meet her.

"Dee Dee works in law and she's the sort of person that will issue a point-on-point take down of a team of hotshot lawyers to defend her client, but will then turn to leave the courtroom and you'll realise that she's done the whole thing with her skirt tucked into her knickers.

"She's just amped up chaos in every regard, apart from she’s got this incredibly sharp mind. But she's loads of fun."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV and streams on the ITV Hub.
