Coronation Street managed to pull fans' fingers on April Fools Day by announcing a new animated series... though unlike other pranks, many think it isn't such a bad idea.
Taking to social media yesterday (April 1), the soap revealed that Coronation Street: The Animated Series had been commissioned by ITV.
They also shared a trailer voiced-over by Andy Whyment, depicting animated versions of his character Kirk Sutherland and Beth (Lisa George).
"Experience all the drama, all the comedy and romance, but without us actors actually having to leave our own homes, which is a win for all of us," he says.
However, it seems that they were pulling all our legs, the soap later admitting on Twitter: "You caught us... Coronation Street: The Animated Series was an April Fools - it would be pretty fun though!"
Many fans suggested it wasn't actually a bad idea, though, especially given that filming had been suspended over coronavirus, and the soap is cutting its weekly episodes down to three.

"It's an April fools but if this lock down continues I think you should really think about doing this for real tbh," one fan wrote.
"April fool or not it's actually a good idea given the actors can record their lines and do voice-overs for their animated characters," another added.
Meanwhile, a third tweeted: "I actually got excited there should actually do this."
Coronation Street airs on ITV.
