Weatherfield stalwart Ken Barlow made a drastic decision to change his life during tonight's (February 7) 10,000th instalment of Coronation Street, and viewers are in pieces over it.
This heartwarming anniversary episode was wreathed in emotion and nostalgia, as you might expect, and it quickly proved to be a refreshing sidestep from all of the recent seriousness.
Yet, in the closing moments, William Roache's iconic character effectively announced his choice to leave the cobbles behind "80 years too late".
Looking out across the wet Weatherfield streets, he said: "Finally it's time to go. Goodbye old friend," after spending much of the hour-long special reflecting on his regrets.
"Wait what?! Ken Barlow leaving???" one fan questioned, while another wrote: "Nooooooo Ken don't leave us."

Besides this tear-inducing scene, the rest of the episode enjoyed a 'classic Corrie' vibe as a variety of throwbacks were handed out from different characters.
The most touching of which was Rita's moment in the Rovers Return, as she wandered through the pub looking at old photographs on the wall as audio clips from previous years were played out in conjunction with which frame she was staring at.
Corrie's final scene further celebrated this incredible anniversary by fading into black and white.
Back over on Twitter, this episode was undoubtedly one of the most well-received in years.
Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
