On tonight's Coronation Street (January 17), David Platt was left devastated after his wife Shona regained consciousness but failed to recognise him.
The scenes set up Shona's temporary exit from the cobbles as actress Julia Goulding has gone on maternity leave following the birth of her son Franklin Wolf Silver.
When David arrived to see his wife tonight, he was thrilled to see her awake. But when Shona began to try talking, she told him she didn't know who he was.
The hospital's consultant then told David that Shona was experiencing serious memory issues and that she could take up to a year to recover.
The consultant also advised moving Shona to a specialist rehabilitation hospital in Leeds, but David was adamant that he knew how to get his wife to remember him.
Desperate to trigger Shona's memory, David brought Lily and Max to visit her. But his plan gravely misfired when Shona got Max confused with her son (and Max's mum Kylie's killer) Clayton.

David later returned with their wedding album to show Shona while telling her the story of their big day.
But Shona had no recollection of the day and instead got upset and called for the nurses to make David leave, telling them she didn't want to see him again.
In the pub, an upset David confided in Gail that he's worried Shona may never recover but Gail advised him that the best way to help Shona was to send her to the rehab unit.
Meanwhile, Bernie put her plan to trap Kel into action. Having been posing as a 14-year-old boy online, Bernie arranged a meeting with Kel which she planned to livestream.
But Kel got wind of her plan and grabbed her phone as Gemma, Billy and Paul rushed to the scene, with Gemma discovering that Kel had brought with him a bag full of lager and condoms.
Despite him getting away, the four went to report him to the police. But instead of being commended for their efforts, they were told they're guilty of entrapment and may have ruined any case against Kel.
