Coronation Street's David Platt has received devastating news about his wife Shona in the wake of her Christmas Day shooting.
David (Jack P Shepherd) was warned that Shona may never make a recovery in the show's Boxing Day episode, after her health took a sudden turn for the worse at the hospital.
Shona was recently caught in the crossfire of Gary Windass's feud with Derek Milligan on Christmas Day, when she was shot by a stray bullet while hiding in a box at Weatherfield's Winter Wonderland.

In Corrie's Boxing Day episode, Shona was awake and talking to her loved ones after seemingly-successful surgery.
However, just when the Platts were breathing a sigh of relief, Shona was rushed off for another operation after her condition suddenly deteriorated once again.

After Shona returned from a second operation, doctors warned David that her brain had been temporarily starved of oxygen due to complications during surgery.
They then tried to remove Shona's breathing tube to see how she'd cope on her own, but with the signs not looking good, the attempts were unsuccessful.

A doctor told David: "We've had to reattach your wife's breathing tube. She's unable to breathe without the ventilator.
"It might mean that the lack of oxygen during surgery had more of an effect than we feared. We need to do a few more checks, but if the brain has been starved of oxygen for too long, then your wife may never regain consciousness."
Corrie bosses are thought to have written in this storyline to explain a maternity break for Julia Goulding, who has played the role of Shona since 2016.
Julia gave birth to her first child, Franklin Wolf Silver, in November.
