Coronation Street's biggest stunt of the year is still a few weeks away, but eagle-eyed fans reckon we're already getting some sneaky hints about the Underworld roof collapse.
Show bosses have announced that disaster will strike at the factory in March when the roof caves in, causing the death of a main character.
Speculation has been rife over the unmissable scenes ever since the story was announced last year, so we're rounding up the biggest and best fan theories right here. Who's a goner? And which character will be responsible for the tragic turn of events?
1. Gina dies?
Corrie's residents love to gang up on one person at any given time and their current target is Gina. Poor Gina is still facing the consequences for messing up Sally and Tim's marriage, ruining Sally's chances at her trial and befriending dodgy Duncan. Plus, there was the unfortunate incident where everyone randomly thought she was a thief for a couple of episodes.
Even now Gina's name has been cleared, people aren't exactly queuing up to make their apologies. Could it be that she'll only redeem herself in her dying moments on the cobbles? Some fans reckon she's not long for this world…
2. Rana dies?
The other character being pinpointed as a possible death victim is Rana. We know that Bhavna Limbachia, who plays Rana, is leaving the show and one newspaper report has already suggested that there's a fatal ending in store for the popular character.
What to Read Next
Show bosses haven't confirmed those particular rumours, but have promised that Rana will have some memorable final scenes. So, does it all fit together? Could Rana find herself playing an unexpected role in the stunt scenes? As a nurse, she'd have the perfect excuse for rushing in to the rescue...
3. Roy gets injured... or worse?
Roy is getting plenty of screen time at the moment as he struggles following the death of his mum Sylvia, but could he be in the sights of the Grim Reaper next? It was Roy's sleepwalking that caused the recent boat fire and, in turn, the latest damage to the factory roof. If Roy does get injured (or worse), it could be a way of bringing the story full circle – and explain why his former foster child Wayne wants to investigate the case personally.
We shouldn't get too carried away, as tabloid rumours have suggested that a very-much-alive Roy will actually be clashing with Wayne in the aftermath of the disaster. (Unless the show is releasing false spoilers to throw us all off the track, of course).
But we do know that Carla will be suffering a major breakdown after the Underworld incident, struggling to cope with what's happened. And if there's one thing that really would push her over the edge, it's Roy being injured as a result of the drama.
4. Nick turns nastier?
It's the Corrie fan theory that just won't go away (mainly because we keep mentioning it) – Nick Tilsley turning to the dark side for good as the ruthless figure behind the Underworld roof collapse. Show boss Iain MacLeod has confirmed that the incident will kick off a whodunit storyline, with the big reveal sparking "the coronation of our next supervillain".
Nick's been pretty horrible already this year – stealing £80,000 from his gran Audrey and tarnishing the memory of the late Lewis Archer by letting him get the blame. But is that only the beginning of what Gail's golden boy is capable of?
5. Gary goes too far?
Much like Nick, local builder Gary Windass has also been showing a nastier side this year. We've already seen him trying to overcharge the Platt family for repair work at their house following the recent boat fire outside Underworld.
We also can't forget the recent paparazzi spoiler pictures, which have revealed that Gary starts working as a debt collector for ruthless loan shark Rick Neelan in a few weeks' time.
As Gary has been involved in the factory roof repairs, he'd be in the perfect position to sneakily cause problems for Underworld. Could some shock sabotage end in tragedy?
6. Seb becomes the teen from hell?
Seb's storylines are often few and far between, but sudden focus on his character in recent weeks – just in time for the build-up to the roof collapse – certainly hasn't gone unnoticed by some fans.
We've seen Seb left devastated as his plans to win custody of his younger siblings ended in tears. He's also become embroiled in an on-off feud with Gary, which gets even worse next week as things turn violent.
Knowing that arch-rival Gary has overseen the recent Underworld repairs, does Seb have a secret motive for wanting to commit sabotage?
7. Phelan's legacy?
Corrie's characters have been talking about that factory roof an awful lot recently as the show sows the seeds for the big collapse, but one unexpected name that cropped up was Pat Phelan. When Gary first took a look at the roof to investigate after the boat fire, he reported back to Carla by explaining that Phelan did a botched job when the roof last needed replacing in 2017.
Already known as one of Corrie's biggest villains after his murder streak, could Phelan surpass himself by claiming another victim from beyond the grave? You never know, causing carnage at the factory might have been a deliberate plan. Even if that wasn't the case, blaming Phelan for everything could prove an easy get-out clause for whoever's actually responsible…
Coronation Street continues tomorrow (March 1) at 7.30pm on ITV.
