Coronation Street star Joe Duttine has hinted that it may not be over for Tim and Sally Metcalfe's relationship, despite a huge Christmas confrontation on the way.

Tim makes a move on his sister-in-law Gina Seddon (Connie Hyde) before Christmas, and his daughter Faye tells him that she spotted him in bed with Gina – leading Tim to tell Sally that he has cheated on her.

But Duttine is hopeful that the pair can overcome this.

"No," he said, when asked if he was worried about Tim and Sally's future, "because there's some interesting stuff happening in the new year.

"I think the Gina and Sally relationship is pretty damaged – I can't really see how that [kind of thing] can be forgotten. So there might be changes around."

Duttine added: "We're in the world of soap – there's got to be some kind of conflict, hasn't there?

"There's got to be some kind of drama from somewhere, and these kinds of things crop up and they choose whether to run with it or not."

The actor also teased the lengths Tim will go to "try and get Sally out of prison". Sally, played by Sally Dynevor, is currently serving a prison sentence after being found guilty of fraud, bribery and money laundering for a crime she did not commit.

"It goes to the wire a little bit. He pushes it a little bit," Duttine said. "I know he's had a bit of a chequered past, but I don't think he's a deliberate law-breaker. It's a crime of passion almost, isn't it?"

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
