Katie Hopkins has passed verdict on the name given to the royal baby by Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The former Apprentice candidate, who caused controversy by ranting about 'lower class' names in a TV appearance, described Prince George Alexander Louis as a "good strong name" and said that she gave the moniker to her dog "for this very reason".

"HRH Prince George of Cambridge gets a big thumbs up from me," she wrote in an MSN blog. "This is as much as for the names he has managed to avoid as for those that he has been given.

"Thankfully he was never going to be a Tyler, Brandon, Hunter or Jayden. This is something of a predictable relief...George is a good, strong name. Monosyllabic. Bold.

"With children it is imperative that you have a name you can shout with some authority. Add a noun and you have the very essence of military command. 'George. Bed!' 'George. School!'

"I named my dog George for this very reason. Dogs and children have a lot in common. They run around an awful lot, need exercising on a twice-daily basis and have minds focused on food, mischief and poo."

Hopkins noted that the choice of Louis, though to be a tribute to Prince Charles's great-uncle Lord Louis Mountbatten, was a "kind gesture".

"George Alexander Louis also avoids any hint of a rude acronym, which the media Twitterati would have ripped to pieces in moments," she added. "George Ian Tyler would have been a disaster on many levels, but the acronym issue is particularly pertinent.

"So three cheers for the Royal Baby... and his utterly brilliant name."

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their son at 4.24pm on Monday (July 22).
