Last Sunday was a big day on the Vodafone Big Top 40 with lots of new releases all battling to try to get that top spot!
For me, the biggest surprise of the day came from the lady who performed on The Voice semi-final the night before, not Jess Glynne but Sia! She absolutely smashed her performance of 'Elastic Heart'. I have to be honest, I loved 'Chandelier' but 'Elastic Heart' didn't grab me as much. I then obviously witnessed her sing it live and it was incredible.
Sia's vocals are completely faultless and it was great seeing her walk on stage barefoot and without her wig at first. Then it was showtime and the heels went on while the hat/wig was carefully put in place by her stylist. It was an absolutely class performance and the reason why I guess she climbed a huge 27 places up the chart on Sunday. 'Elastic Heart' ultimately charted at number 10 - the power of one performance, ay?!
Sia is an incredible talent! I have been a fan from way back when she released 'Little Man', a garage tune, back in the late '90s. Then, of course, her time with Zero 7 followed and their tune 'Destiny' remains one of my all-time favourite songs.
Last week, we also had a new release from Rihanna with 'Bitch Better Have My Money', and it wasn't what I expected! It's the follow-up to 'FourFiveSeconds' but it's on a completely different vibe.
One thing's for sure - she ain't playing with this one, it's full-on! RiRi charted at number 8 on Sunday and I'm sure it will stick around for a while and continue to climb the chart.

The big battle this week, however, was of course taking place at the top - would Jess Glynne be able to hold on to the top spot and make it two weeks at number 1? It was a close one as she was neck and neck with Ed Sheeran and Rudimental's new track 'Bloodstream'.
I must have played Ed's x album a million times, and I had assumed 'Bloodstream' was just Ed's track and Rudimental had jumped on it and added the drum and bass vibe, but no. I spoke with Kesi from Rudimental on Sunday, and he told me something I didn't know about the song - the guys actually wrote the record in LA together. They held back their version to release at a later date – smart move.
In the end, it was a very close call but Jess did it and 'Hold My Hand' held on to the number 1 spot for a second week.
Tune in to Marvin Humes every Monday to Saturday from 7pm, and every Sunday from 4pm on the Vodafone Big Top 40, on Capital, available on 95-106 FM, DAB digital radio, at capitalfm.com and on the Capital app.
