Charlie Sheen has said he would like to help Lindsay Lohan turn her life around.

The Liz & Dick actress is facing two potentially serious legal problems, due to possibly violating probation in her theft case in addition to being involved in a nightclub scuffle.

Sheen has already helped Lohan by giving her $100,000 to pay off tax debt, and the actor has now told TMZ that he would like to take a more active role in his Scary Movie 5 co-star's life.

"I have a kinship with somebody [Lindsay] who clearly needs a mentor, whether she wants one or not," Sheen explained. "She can continue to hang out with her dress shredding club buddies, or turn to me for some advice from a guy who's been down the road as well as every other side trail on the journey."

He went on to deny that he has any romantic intentions with Lohan, saying: "I love her, I respect her, and I've never laid a finger on her that wasn't on film. How ya like me now, America?"

A source close to Lohan apparently disclosed to the website that the actress has not reacted positively to Sheen's public declaration of support.

Lohan apparently complained to her friends that Sheen has not lived a clean life himself at times, and thus should not be making public statements about her lifestyle.

The insider added that Lohan has recently committed to getting her life back in order, but does not need help from Sheen to do so.

Lohan recently signed on to play herself in an episode of Sheen's sitcom Anger Management, which airs on Thursdays at 9.30/8.30c on FX.

Anger Management is shown in the UK at 9pm on Wednesdays.
