Update: Hilarie Burton has shared the adorable first pictures of her new baby daughter with Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The One Tree Hill star welcomed her second child with the Walking Dead actor last month and has since revealed the girl's name – George Virginia Morgan.

Alongside the images on Instagram, Hilarie gave a moving account of the couple's traumatic fertility struggles, and expressed her hope that their "miracle baby" will inspire others going through a similar situation.

"It took a long time for Jeffrey and I to have this baby," she wrote. "The first time I got pregnant, it took a year and a half. I surprised him on Christmas with baby Seahawk booties. We cried. We celebrated. We picked out names. And we lost that baby. More losses followed, and as so many couples know, it was heartbreaking. It still is heartbreaking.

"So when this pregnancy started, we were cautious. I didn't want to celebrate for fear of jinxing it. I didn't want a baby shower. I checked her heartbeat every day, up until the day she was born. And now that she is here, I just stare at her in wonder all day.

"If anything, my wish is that she would restore hope for others. Fertility is a fickle thing. And for the other couples out there who have had dark days, we want to introduce our miracle baby to you and send you our love and support in finding yours."

Original story (2/3): Congratulations to The Walking Dead's Jeffrey Dean Morgan and One Tree Hill's Hilarie Burton who have welcomed a baby daughter.

Morgan announced the happy news on Twitter, but didn't reveal the baby's name: "Hey y'all... baby gal Morgan is spectacular. We just respecting her wishes for laying low a bit longer. But we super appreciate all the well wishes n stuff. Thank you."

The couple are also parents to 7-year-old son Augustus and had revealed they were expecting another child last September at the Emmy Awards.

Morgan then accidentally let slip that they were expecting a baby girl at a Supernatural convention, apologising to Burton on Instagram.

"I texted @hilarieburton right after I spilled the little girl beans... and, as usual... she was a rockstar. After all these years she's come to expect me to be a dope... thank god she gets it, and loves me regardless," he wrote in the post.

Earlier this week, Morgan was paying tribute to Walking Dead co-star Chandler Riggs following the midseason premiere, saying he would "forever be disappointed" that the show didn't follow the comic route with Negan and Carl's relationship.

"Not only getting to work with you... but, getting to know you. You, my friend, are an incredible young man. Well before joining this cast I was a fan... a fan that loved watching you grow up in front of a camera," he enthused.

"From the moment you first put on the way too large sheriff's hat as a boy... to the end, the hat so befitting of the man Carl had become. Wiser and more compassionate than all of us. You held all of our hearts."

The Walking Dead airs on AMC in the US, with Fox airing the show in the UK.
