Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty gave one fan a gift they will never forget on Saturday night.

Fresh from winning a record-breaking gold medal at the European Championships in Copenhagen, Peaty decided to surprise a young girl in the audience with the medal, signed by himself, and the look on her face is priceless:

Speaking to the Press Association, Peaty said "She loved it. On the spur of the moment I was like, 'These kids have come all this way, shown the GB flag'.

"I think that kid actually came from Malaysia to watch me and Ben Proud swim.

"So you want to give something back to your fans and people who make that extra effort for you and come to support you.

"I saw her and I was just like, 'I don't really need this'. I'd done the win, got the record, and that is enough for me.

"So to give the medal away to someone – that is hopefully going to change her complete perspective on training."

Last night (December 17) saw Peaty come fifth in 2017's BBC Sports Personality of the Year competition, voted for by the public.

Mo Farah came in first place, although his victory was undermined by technical issues (which really annoyed his running coach) and his son, who decided to yank his microphone off during a live interview.
