Netflix's documentary on US gymnast Simone Biles has reached second place in the most-watched Top 10 on the streamer.

Simone Biles Rising premiered last month and chronicles the athlete's journey from the Tokyo Olympics held in summer 2021 – where she withdrew from various events to prioritise her mental health – to the Paris Games, in which she has won three gold medals so far in the team, all-around and vault events.

Ever since debuting on the platform on July 17, the four-part doc from filmmaker Katie Walsh has been moving around the Netflix Top 10.

The trailer Simone Biles Rising includes footage of a younger Biles moving her first steps into the world of gymnastics, as well as insight into her personal life including her wedding to her husband, the American football star Jonathan Owens.

Biles also reflects on the feeling she had ahead of the Tokyo Olympics in summer 2021 that something wasn't quite right – and credits her loved ones with helping her on her journey back to the Games in Paris this year.

Elsewhere on Netflix, it was recently announced that Seong Gi-hun's story will come to an end in a third and final season of Squid Game.

Ahead of season two landing on the platform on Boxing Day this year, the show was given an early renewal, with series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk posting a letter on Netflix's US Instagram account to explain when the series will end.

"It's been almost three years since season 1 was met with incredible response around the world and many unimaginable events took place," Hwang wrote.

"On the first day, we began shooting season 2, I remember thinking, 'Wow, I can't believe I'm back in the world of Squid Game'. It almost felt surreal. I wonder how it will feel for you to be back in Squid Game after three years as well."

He added: "Seong Gi-hun, who vowed revenge at the end of season 1, returns and joins the game again. Will he succeed in getting his revenge? Front Man doesn't seem to be an easy opponent this time either.

"The fierce clash between their two worlds will continue into the series finale with season 3, which will be brought to you next year."

Simone Biles Rising is streaming on Netflix, with two further episode to follow later this year.

Squid Game and its unscripted spinoff Squid Game: The Challenge are both streaming now on Netflix. A second season of each show has been confirmed. Season 2 of Squid Game will air on December 26.
