Eminem's 2002 semi-autobiographical film 8 Mile is a veritable classic, and it looks like the rapper is ready to revisit his roots once again with his latest film project Bodied.

Based on a script written by rap battle champion Alex "Kid Twist" Larsen, Bodied is a battle rap satire produced by Eminem himself and directed by acclaimed music video director Joseph Kahn.

Oh, and it's also been picked as Toronto International Film Festival's Midnight Madness Opening Night Film, so we're already expecting big things – and the film's incredibly tense rap battle-focused trailer has definitely piqued our interest too.

Bodied has been described as "a satirical exploration of the world's most artistically brutal sport – battle rapping" and is set to explore race relations in the battle rap scene.

The movie is told through the eyes of a graduate student who becomes obsessed with battle rap after choosing the topic for his thesis, Complex reports.

And, going by the rap battle between Megaton and MC Goggles in the trailer, it's not pulling any punches either.

What to Read Next

"Shut the f**k up, you little squirmy little Reddit blogger. Another Eminem imposter who refers to Elton John as his second father," the rap opens.

"Bitch, hip-hop has been for minorities, it's never been for you geeky asses. Matter of fact, what are these? Your f**king little reading glasses that you need for your English classes?"

The film will star Anthony Michael Hall, Debra Wilson, Charlamagne tha God and Calum Worthy, as well as several battle rappers, including Loaded Lux, Dizaster, Dumbfoundead and Hollow Da Don.

Bodied will have its world premiere at Toronto International Film Festival on September 7.

Meanwhile, Eminem is gearing up for his headline set at Reading & Leeds Festival later this month, and if that's too long to wait, you can always revisit 8 Mile's best battle rap scene in the video below:
