A brand new trailer has dropped for Marty Supreme, an American sports drama starring Timothée Chalamet. Loosely inspired by the life of table tennis player Marty Reisman, the film is expected to land in UK cinemas on 26 December 2025.

Set in New York in the 1950s, Marty Supreme follows Marty Mauser (Chalemet), a young man fighting against the odds to become a ping pong champion. Determined to fly to Japan and take on his great rival, Koto Endo (Koto Kawaguchi), the film charts the highs and lows of his journey.

Directed by Josh Safdie, the esteemed filmmaker behind Uncut Gems (2019), the movie boasts an A-list line-up with Gwyneth Paltrow, Fran Drescher, Odessa A'zion, Kevin O'Leary, Tyler Okonma, and Abel Ferrara cast in supporting roles.

Ahead of its release, Marty Supreme has already attracted plenty of Oscar buzz, with critics homing in on Chalamet's performance. Speaking about the project, cinematographer Darius Khondji revealed the lengths that Chalamet went to while preparing to play Marty.

"He wanted to be like a real [professional] ping pong player when he started shooting," Khondji told Variety, noting that Chalamet "is going to be very different than the Timothée Chalamet you've seen so far."

"I don't think people are going to recognise him at all," he teased.

As for the man of the moment, Chalamet told The Hollywood Reporter that he found it easier to identify with Marty as a character, thanks to his own experiences in the film industry. "In spirit, this is the most who I was that I've had to play a role," the Oscar nominee said.

"Some people are fortunate enough to stumble into their success or be passive about their pursuit of whatever they want to do in life. That wasn't it for me. For me, it was putting in the 10,000 hours. It was dropping out of college. It was taking a risk. It was pursuing projects that were untraditional at first — at the time, it was kind of radical, the choices I was making when I was 20.

"In a sense, the story of Marty Mauser is really comparative," Chalamet continued. "And so I was deeply moved by it."

Marty Supreme will land in UK cinemas on 26 December 2025.
