You'd have thought that Marvel Studios and Sony would have learned from the recent Doctor Strange/Tilda Swinton whitewashing debacle, but rumours around the latest Spider-Man: Homecoming casting have fans upset again.

The Dark Tower star Michael Barbieri will be joining Spider-Man's class, according to Heroic Hollywood.

According to ComicBook.com, he will be "based on" Ganke Lee - the best friend of the alternate reality Spider-Man Miles Morales.

What is troubling is that Ganke is Korean American, making Barbieri an odd choice for anyone 'based' on him.

Hopefully the Ganke thing will go no further than an unsubstantiated rumour.

Barbieri is best known for his role in Little Men. The 14-year-old will be playing a supporting role in the adaptation of Stephen King's The Dark Tower.
