As soon as it was announced, we knew Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's performance would be one of the highlights of this year's Oscars – and so it proved.

The stars reunited for a sensational Wicked performance which opened this year's ceremony. Starting with Dorothy clicking her iconic ruby slippers, there was a montage of past Oscar winners ending with "We Love LA" in the sky.

Grande then appeared on stage with a beautiful version of 'Over the Rainbow', before Erivo made her appearance with a cover of 'Home' by Diana Ross.

Then came the moment Wicked fans were waiting for as Grande and Erivo reunited for 'Defying Gravity', backed by a full orchestra.

Both stars are nominated for an Oscar this year, with Erivo and Grande nominated in the lead and supporting actress categories, respectively.

Neither is the favourite to win, but we could see a surprise on the night. Best Supporting Actress is set to be announced around midway through the ceremony, but Best Actress is not revealed until the penultimate award of the night.

We still have eight months to wait until Wicked: For Good lands in cinemas, but if you're in the US, you'll soon be able to stream Wicked as many times as you want when it lands on Peacock on March 21.

The eagerly-awaited sequel will feature Dorothy in a bigger role and rumoured star Alisha Weir recently responded to potential casting.

"When I saw the rumour, I thought this is absolutely crazy and it went so crazy on social media," she explained.

"I mean that would be wonderful. I am such a big fan of Wicked and I saw the first one with my family. I am such a big fan of Jon Chu's work and Ariana Grande and Cynthia but that would be pretty cool."

Wicked is available to buy or rent from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and more in the UK.
