Lady Gaga performed a medley of hits from The Sound of Music at the 2015 Oscars ceremony.

The singer performed several songs from the classic 1965 film during a four-minute performance, and was met with a standing ovation from the stars at the ceremony.

The praise was led by original Sound of Music star Julie Andrews, who played Maria in the film. Andrews took to the stage to hug Gaga at the end of her performance and said: "Thank you Lady Gaga for that wonderful performance."

She appeared tearful as she continued: "It really warmed my heart, it really did. It's hard to believe that 50 years have gone by since that joyous film was released. I blinked and suddenly here I am.

"I do think that I speak for everyone connected with the movie when I say we all really felt blessed to have been a part of it. And as for me, well, how lucky can a girl get."

Gaga appeared exhausted following her appearance, tweeting a photo of herself lying on the floor and captioning it: "Me right now. What a night. Congratulations to all the nominees, performers, and winners! Let's party!"
