Steven Spielberg may have recently returned to the sci-fi genre with Disclosure Day, but for many, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is considered one of the high-points in the filmmaker's storied career. Though the beloved coming-of-age sci-film was released nearly 45 years ago, its legacy has endured for decades – evidenced by the upcoming release of new E.T. set from LEGO.
With a release date of 1 August, the set contains more than 1,200 pieces and depicts our loveable alien friend as they hold a plant pot. Of course, it wouldn't be complete without the character performing their iconic pose as they point towards the sky.
E.T. isn't strictly limited to that pose, however, as you can adjust their head, arms, mouth, and forefinger to recreate any look from the 1982 film. The head rotates 360 degrees as well, so you've got plenty of options there.
Plus, the model includes a switch at the back, which you can toggle to illuminate E.T.'s heart. The set also comes complete with step-by-step instructions.
It's currently available to pre-order now for £119.99.
Spielberg – whose other sci-fi films include Close Encounters of the Third Kind and War of the Worlds – recently addressed one of the questions that has persisted around E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial: Is the titular alien slimy or dry?
What to Read Next
"E.T. was a little moist but never slimy," the director told The New York Times's The Daily podcast. "[He was] only dry when he got sick."
Spielberg then said with a laugh that he found this question particularly "wild".
If you want to view some of LEGO's other sets based on much-loved sci-fi properties, then a Star Trek one may be up your street. LEGO recently released a 3,600-piece model based on the U.S.S. Enterprise.
