Tron: Ares, the third film in the Tron franchise, has landed a UK streaming home on Disney+. The sci-fi adventure stars Gillian Anderson and Jared Leto, with a supporting cast that includes Evan Peters, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Jeff Bridges.

The synopsis reads: "When a highly sophisticated Program named Ares (Leto) is sent from the digital world into the real world on a dangerous mission, it marks humankind’s first encounter with AI beings."

Released in October, RogerEbert.com described the film as "stunning" to watch and listen to, adding that it was also "unexpectedly rewarding to think about, considering that it always has one eye on the audience and is determined not to bore them".

Tron: Ares is available to stream now on Disney+ and while the service no longer has a free trial in the UK, there are other sign up deals out there so you can watch the film today.

After taking almost 10 years to make it to screens, with its AI themes, Tron: Ares seems more relevant today than ever, as Leto explained in an exclusive interview with Digital Spy last October.

"In a way, it is coming out at a perfect time when AI is a huge conversation," the actor said. "We started working on the movie nine or 10 years ago, and nobody was talking about AI unless you were a researcher or an academic or something.

"Now everybody's talking about everybody's using it, whether they know it or not; it's all part of our lives in some way. So I think it's interesting that the film is coming out at that time."

Comparing it to the environment the original Tron movie was released in, Leto added that in 1982 "people were talking about computers and video games".

"I think we got pretty lucky that it's touching on a conversation that everybody's having," he continued.

"It's also a movie that's big and fun and filled with adventure and excitement, heart and humour and Jeff Bridges. There's a lot of fun to be had there, and I hope people enjoy it like I did when I was a kid sitting in that theatre in 1982."
