Jason Momoa has confirmed his return for Dune 3 despite the fact his character Duncan Idaho died in the first movie.

Starring as the swordsman in 2021's Dune, Momoa's character was killed off and the actor did not make an appearance in Dune: Part Two.

Speaking to ShortList, Momoa revealed that he was preparing to return to Denis Villeneuve's trilogy for Dune: Part Three aka, Dune Messiah.

Asked what comes next after A Minecraft Movie, Momoa said he is shooting Supergirl and some other secret projects before moving on to Dune 3.

"I'm shooting Supergirl now, playing Lobo," he said. "And then got a couple really good secrets coming up to finish off the end of the year… My TV show Chief of War comes out on August 1st.

"That's been like my dream project, my "Braveheart for Hawaii", and we'll probably hopefully do two more seasons of that. Hopefully this does well and I'm going on more adventures in Minecraft world. Then there's…gosh… Dune 3."

The third instalment will adapt Frank Herbert's 1969 novel Dune Messiah. In the novel, Duncan Idaho is cloned and brought back to life as an artificially created human who is given to Paul as a gift that comes with a deadly secret.

Asked how things were going on the threequel, Momoa said that "it's going well" before explaining that he can't reveal anymore information after "getting in trouble" for discussing his part as Lobo in Supergirl.

Back in December, Momoa confirmed the news that he had landed the role of anti-hero Lobo in DC's Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

"So Lobo was... I collect comics, and I don't do so much anymore, but he was always my favourite, and I always wanted to play Lobo, because I'm like, 'Hello? It's the perfect role'," he shared on Instagram.

Dune 3 is set to be released on December 18, 2026.
