Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch's new movie The Roses has finally landed a release date.

Searchlight Pictures has announced that the upcoming film – a remake of the 1989 dark comedy The War of the Roses, which itself was based on Warren Adler's 1981 novel – will arrive in US cinemas on August 29. A UK release date is TBC, though it'll likely be around the same time.

The Roses stars Colman and Cumberbatch as picture-perfect couple Ivy and Theo, who appear to have an easy life with successful careers, an idyllic marriage and loving children.

However, when Theo's career suddenly nosedives and Ivy's takes off, a "tinderbox of fierce competition and resentment ignites".

The Roses is written by Tony McNamara, reuniting him with The Favourite star Colman. Jay Roach directs.

As well as Colman and Cumberbatch, The Roses boasts an all-star cast including Ncuti Gatwa, Andy Samberg, Allison Janney, Jamie Demetriou, Kate McKinnon, Zoë Chao and Belinda Bromilow.

In other news, Colman's new movie with John Lithgow recently had its world premiere at Sundance Film Festival, and will hopefully get a cinema release later this year.

Titled Jimpa, the queer drama stars Colman as Hannah, who takes her non-binary teenager Frances (Aud Mason-Hyde) to Amsterdam to visit their grandfather Jim (Lithgow) – lovingly known as Jimpa – who is described as "an aging, hedonistic patriarch living loud and proud in Amsterdam’s vibrant gay community".

As Hannah reconnects with her estranged father and navigates her "ambivalence" towards him, Frances "discovers the pleasures and perils of queer life in the big city".

Meanwhile, Cumberbatch recently landed a role in new crime thriller Blood on Snow, with the star replacing Tom Hardy after he had to step away due to scheduling conflicts.

Based on the novel by Jo Nesbø, the adaptation follows Olav, a hit man who is hired by his mob boss to kill the man's cheating wife.

However, things take a turn when Olav falls in love with the wife and doesn't carry out the hit.

The Roses will arrive in US cinemas on August 29. A UK release date is TBC.
