New Star Wars movie might not arrive until 2025

It looks like we may not see Star Wars on the big screen for another few years yet.

Disney has confirmed its release calendar for the next few years, which reveals the next title from a galaxy far, far away comes out in 2025 – namely December 19. Another Star Wars movie is also dated for December 17, 2027.

Specifics on which movies they will be remain under wraps, though titles from Taika Waititi, Kevin Feige and Rian Johnson have been announced in recent years.

It is also worth noting that a new movie could arrive before then, potentially swapping places with another Disney title – so watch this space.

The news comes after it was confirmed that Patty Jenkins's planned Star Wars movie Rogue Squadron, which was due to release in December 2023, had been taken off the release schedule.

The last movie in the saga was 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, which received a mixed reception and rounded off the sequel trilogy that began with 2015's The Force Awakens.

Star Wars has been much busier on the TV front of late, with the latest series Andor debuting on Disney+ today (September 21).

The show is already lined-up for a second season, though creator Tony Gilroy has admitted that the follow-up may not be released until 2024.

"I have two more years to go," he told The Wrap. "We start shooting in November on Part 2. And I don't know if... Our past pattern was two years, but I mean, I'll be on... We'll shoot from November to August. And then our post[-production] last time was about a year."

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and the entire Skywalker Saga are available on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K now, as well as on Disney+. Andor premieres with three episodes on September 21, streaming on Disney+. New episodes will then follow weekly.
