Ryan Gosling has hinted that Ken might be short for cash in the upcoming Barbie movie.

Starring Margot Robbie as the titular Barbie, the movie is already one of the most talked-about upcoming projects. And Gosling's new comments on his character only add to that sense of mystique.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight while promoting his new movie The Gray Man, Gosling joked: "That Ken life is even harder than the Gray Man life, I think.

"Ken's got no money, he's got no job, he's got no car, he's got no house. He's going through some stuff."

Photos of both Robbie and Gosling in character have already been released with Gosling sporting bleached blonde hair, and behind-the-scenes videos from the set have been leaked on social media.

The movie is directed by Little Women and Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig, who also co-wrote the script with her partner Noah Baumbach. Baumbach is an Oscar-nominated filmmaker in his own right, having most recently written Marriage Story.

Joining Robbie (who is producing the film) and Gosling in the star-studded cast are Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrara, Alexandra Shipp, Emma Mackey, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, Will Ferrell, Ncuti Gatwa, and Emerald Fennell.

It is believed that some of these cast members could be playing other versions of Barbie and Ken. So could this be Barbie's answer to Multiverse of Madness? The film is certainly expected to be one of the wilder pictures when it releases on July 21, 2023.

Gosling added to the mystery, saying: "It's not what you think it is unless it is. And then you know what it is, but I don't think that's what you think it is. Wait, what are we talking about?"
