Ewan McGregor's comments regarding his Birds of Prey character have inspired some online uproar from fans.
The Scottish actor portrays classic DC villain Black Mask in the new movie, but while talking to Variety alongside co-star Chris Messina (Victor Zsasz) recently, his response to a question about their characters' sexuality hasn't gone down too smoothly.
"Are you guys gay in the movie?" asked the reporter, after pointing out the internet whispers.

McGregor replied: "Their relationship is very much based in there's a want and a need in there, for sure," before Messina added: "There's a real love of anarchy, and yeah, you know..."
"More than likely yes! [laughs]," pitched in McGregor.

But although the pair's comments slide towards another big screen LGBTQ+ representation, it appears as though the ambiguity hasn't gone down too well with some.
The Lion King actor Billy Eichner has since retweeted the interview and shared his own damning view, writing: "Honestly just say they're straight. Please. Enough with this have it both ways nonsense. IMAGINE HOW TIRED WE ARE."
"I agree. It is 2020 and we still can't say if something is gay or not," replied one of Eichner's followers, while someone else noted: "Totally agree. Screw the subtext crap."
Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn) will be released in cinemas on February 7, 2020.
