Birds of Prey, a Suicide Squad spin-off focusing on the character of Harley Quinn, is getting a spin-off movie of its own focusing on one of the characters introduced as part of Harley's little gang.

As reported by The Wrap, the studio are working on a Black Canary film for streaming service HBO Max. Jurnee Smollett is set to reprise her role, while Lovecraft County's Misha Green is set to be penning the script.

In the Birds of Prey movie, Dinah was working as a singer and later as a driver for Black Mask/Roman Sionis, although she wasn't at all happy with the situation.

She later betrays him and joins Harley and the other protagonists, revealing that she has superhuman powers (specifically, a supersonic scream that can knock out multiple people at a time).

No information is given about what the plot of the solo movie will be at the moment, although The Wrap mentions a lot about Black Canary's history with her parents, so maybe that will be something that will be explored. Superhero movies do love their tragic origin stories and parental issues.
