Netflix has released a trailer for Lou, an adrenaline-pumping thriller starring Allison Janney and Jurnee Smollett.
Janney is miles away from her Mom role as the titular antiheroine, a mysterious, hardened woman living next door to Birds of Prey star Smollett's character and her daughter.
When the girl is kidnapped during a storm, Lou helps her neighbour track the man who is responsible. There's a sense that the mother knows all too well who took her daughter and is ready to do whatever it takes to get her back.

But Lou doesn't just sit there watching. The protagonist doesn't shy away from using violence to pursue the kidnapper, showcasing an array of weapons and leaving a bloody trail behind.
Navigating an unforgiving landscape, she also shows off her impressive survival skills, while harbouring a dark secret.
What to Read Next
"How do you know all this?" Smollett's character asks Lou, who replies, without missing a beat: "Girl Scouts."
Directed by Anna Foerster, already behind the camera for episodes of Criminal Minds, Outlander and Westworld, the film is written by American Crime Story writer and producer Maggie Cohn.

Smollett is set to reprise the role of Dinah Lance/Black Canary in an upcoming film for HBO Max, with the script being written by Lovecraft Country's Misha Green.
The character was first introduced in Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey, in which Dinah works as a singer and later as a driver for villain Black Mask/Roman Sionis before joining Harley Quinn's all-female squad.
Following reports of the Batgirl movie being shelved amid a strategic shift at Warner Bros, fans are fearing for Black Canary, though there hasn't been any update on the status of the film so far. No news is good news, right?
Lou premieres on Netflix on September 23.
