We get less competitive and crave less excitement in our gaming as we age, according to a survey of over 140,000 gamers.

The data was gathered and interpreted over on Quantic Foundry (nothing to do with benchmarking Heavy Rain), and shows that the desire for competition in games takes a - gradual - nosedive as we get older.

On the other hand, the desire to play strategy games, like the thoroughly excellent XCOM 2, hardly wavers at all over the years.

According to the data, though, all motivations in gaming decline as we age.

This is down to a number of factors, with Quantic Foundry citing increased life responsibilities, making us see gaming as less important, and the simple fact that less excitement isn't in and of itself a bad thing.

Sometimes you just want to play a relaxing game, and this might become more prevalent as we age.
