Dr Dave Ranyard (aka Dr Dave) has announced that he's stepped down from his role as Head of Sony's London Studio, where he previously worked on projects for PlayStation VR like demos The London Heist and The Deep.
Ranyard isn't leaving games altogether, though - he's off to work on VR independently, carrying on his good work and making it available to even more people.
"2016 is going to be THE year of VR so it's the perfect time for me to take this step into independent development," said Ranyard.
"The emergence of a new medium like VR doesn't come along very often and I really want to be a part of this new world."
Ranyard has been with Sony for 17 years, working on games like The Getaway and Singstar, among many others.
"It was a tough decision to leave Sony as I have really enjoyed my time there, working on some amazing games and making some lifelong friends," he continued.
"I'm also a huge PlayStation fanboy at heart so am looking forward to working on Sony's VR platform in addition to others that will be available."
