The Flash will not just speed through present and past Central City in season two - the series will also introduce an alternate dimension.

Fans of the CW series have already seen Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) travel to the past, with tonight's (May 19) season one finale revisiting that same theme.

Speaking to TV Guide, Grant Gustin revealed that a parallel universe storyline from DC Comics will soon come to life on The Flash.

"What's fun about this show is that there's going to be multiple timelines as we move forward," he hinted.

"I think we're going to start showing Earth-One and Earth-Two in the near future. There will be kind of different dimensions going on."

Carlos Valdes - who plays STAR Labs' mechanical engineer Cisco Ramon - addressed how these multiple dimensions could impact crossovers with Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow going forward.

"It gets a little Rubik's Cube-y in terms of keeping consistency between all these timelines and whatnot," Valdes revealed.

"But the writers have their stuff together. If I were to trust anyone, it would be them."

The Flash will conclude its freshman season tonight as Barry Allen makes the bold decision to travel back in time to save his mother.

The CW airs the show in the US and Sky1 carries it in the UK.
