American Horror Story has taken viewers inside a murder house, an asylum and even a clown cult in its previous seven season. Next up — the future.

Co-creator Ryan Murphy made the surprising revelation at the TCA press tour on Friday (January 5) that the eighth season of AHS will go forwards in time, rather than backwards as in previous seasons.

"All I'll say about it is I want to go to the future — still topical, but the future, which I've never done," the producer teased (via Entertainment Weekly).

Murphy wouldn't elaborate any further on the plot for the next American Horror Story, other than to clarify that his future theme won't involve space travel.

"I pitched it to [FX CEO] John Landgraf today right after his TCA panel, and he loved it, but he's asked me not to say what it is," Murphy explained.

"I told him and he fell out of his chair with joy. I think people will like it, it's different from what we've done before, but I always try and do the opposite of what I've done on that show."
