With the likes of Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson returning to American Horror Story for its 13th season, anticipation for the next instalment of the long-running horror anthology series is understandably high.

That excitement will likely only increase, with the already-stacked cast list – which also includes Emma Roberts and Angela Bassett – getting some big name additions.

As per Deadline, John Carroll Lynch, Mena Suvari, Matt Fraser and Berto Colón have all been added to the line-up for the upcoming season, which doesn't yet have a title. Though the plot is shrouded in secrecy, we do have some new character details.

Lynch and Fraser are reprising their roles from Freak Show, where the pair played Twisty the Clown and Paul the Illustrated Seal respectively. Colón will reportedly play Joe the Doorman, an employee of Lange's character, while Suvari's role is undisclosed.

Though we still don't have all the details on the upcoming chapter, the return of Lynch and Fraser would indicate that it shares some connection to Freak Show, which is the fourth season of the anthology.

In addition to the aforementioned names, other returning figures include Evan Peters, Billie Lourd, Kathy Bates, Gabourey Sidibe and Leslie Grossman, while Ariana Grande and John Waters are joining the franchise for the first time.

After Lange was pictured on the first day of filming last month, several fans expressed hope that the 13th season was a continuation of Coven, the third season of the series. Though not officially announced, series creator Ryan Murphy seemingly confirmed this.

It seems fans might get their wish, with Bassett recently telling Entertainment Tonight that she would be reprising her role of Marie Laveau, the character she played in Coven, in the 13th season.

"I am playing the same character [from Coven]," she said, before adding that she "loved" the role and had wished it "came sooner". Furthermore, she reflected on the widespread success of Coven, which she called "fun".

"You had the incredible Jessica Lange, Kathy Bates, Sarah Paulson, myself and a slew of wonderful young actors such as Emma and Gabourey," she said. "It was so much fun. With that story, you could be over-the-top and witchy."
