The rebooting of the 1990s is continuing apace, with Mad About You now set to make a comeback.

TVLine reports that Sony, which made the original NBC sitcom, has begun talks with leads Paul Reiser and Helen Hunt to reprise their famous roles for a new run.

The episodes would apparently be likely to focus on the central married couple, Paul and Jamie, as they struggle to come to terms with their now nearly-adult daughter Mabel getting ready to leave for college.

Mad About You was set in New York and originally aired between 1992 and 1999.

Reiser, whose recent roles have included Dr Sam Owens in Stranger Things season 2, had recently hinted at a return for the sitcom.

"If we can find the story to tell, and anybody's interested, I'd be open to it," he told People.

"For years, I would've said, 'Absolutely no. We never would do it', because I was very proud of how we ended it really well," he said.

"We even told the future a little bit, so our thinking at the time was, 'Let's make sure we never get tempted to come back. Let's tell them what happens'.

"Now, because everybody's talking about it, I started to think, 'Maybe if there's a story we could come up with'."

Other '90s US sitcoms back for an encore include Will & Grace, which returned to huge ratings in the US, and Roseanne, which will feature both Beckys.
