There's no denying that some of the best things to spend your time watching these days are on TV. Gone is the world where cinema held a monopoly on being the foremost way to stare at a screen for prolonged periods of time.

Someone riding the crest of the television wave is Nicole Kidman, who opened up about her career renaissance (not to say she ever really went away) at a press tour promoting Top of the Lake: China Girl (via Vulture).

"To have this year – it makes me cry – with all of these things [coming] together at the same time, it's phenomenal," Kidman said.

"I don't know how that happened because it was not thought out – it was given to me that way. I just bow down and I'm very, very grateful."

Kidman also said that she's been lucky enough to go "where the great roles are" right now, and that she is particularly grateful for the women who have been a part of her recent journey.

"I love that for the two series that I've done on TV, I'm sitting with women up here," she said of the press tour panel.

"Is something changing? I know that I'm not sitting up here with men. I'm sitting up here both times with women and that means that the roles are here, the roles are in television, and that's really exciting."

Kidman's comments echo those of Naomi Watts, who recently spoke about how she thinks TV is now such a promising medium in which to work.

"It's definitely a strong movement, and we're witnessing a change," the Twin Peaks star said.

"Certainly for women right now, it's a fantastic place for storytelling."
