It's official - Marvel's Luke Cage will carry on moving forwards, and not just in the upcoming The Defenders series either, but with a second season of his own show too.

Netflix confirmed the news via the official Luke Cage Twitter account complete with a short video that announced a second season was coming soon with a neon sign in Pop's barber shop.

Of course, when it premiered earlier this year, Luke Cage was such a hit with fans and critics alike that a second season was very likely anyway - just like Daredevil and Jessica Jones before it.

But as this is the first actual confirmation of it we've gotten from Netflix, it's definitely time to get excited.

The 13 episodes saw Luke team up with nurse Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson) and policewoman Misty Knight (Simone Missick) to take down villain Cornell "Cottonmouth" Stokes (Mahershala Ali).

Unfortunately for them, it soon became clear that there were people even worse than Cottonmouth who needed defeating. All in a day's work for a superhero, eh?

What to Read Next

Luke Cage will next be seen in Marvel's crossover series The Defenders, which will see the bulletproof ex-con team up with Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Iron Fist to save New York City.

We've already seen some sneaky photos from filming of The Defenders - and it looks like Luke and Claire will be getting very steamy indeed.

The Defenders is set to premiere in 2017, but if you can't wait, check out the teaser trailer for the show below:
