The version of Luke Cage played by Mike Colter in the new Netflix series is very different to Marvel's 1970s original.
Much to Colter's delight, the yellow disco shirt is out – replaced by a black hoodie.
"It was a necessity!" the actor joked, speaking to Digital Spy ahead of the launch of his solo show.
This version of Luke first appeared in last year's Jessica Jones – and Colter told us that fans can expect a further "reinvention of the character" in his own series.
"It doesn't feel like a superhero story – and I think that's what makes it special."
Fans of the Marvel comics should expect a "lot of little Easter Eggs" across the 13 episodes, though.
What to Read Next
Colter also opens up about the character's future: does it involve making babies with Jessica Jones?
After Luke Cage, he'll reprise the part in team-up series The Defenders, which will also feature Jessica (Krysten Ritter), Daredevil (Charlie Cox) and Iron Fist (Finn Jones).
Cage's partnership with Iron Fist – as the 'Heroes for Hire' – is a major part of their comic roots, though Colter told us that he's yet to meet his future co-star Jones.
He's not sure which of the four heroes will take charge of the team either. So could we be in for a superhero leadership contest?
Luke Cage will be available to stream exclusively on Netflix from Friday (September 30).
