Stranger Things may have aired its final season on Netflix but for some fans there's a big piece of the puzzle missing. Back in 2023, the popular sci-fi series became a stage show when prequel The First Shadow opened in London's West End before making it to Broadway.

The First Shadow, based on a story by The Duffer Brothers and written by Kate Trefry, tells the story of Henry Creel, who would become the villain Vecna, with events tying into the season five finale and even offering a bit more clarity for the lucky fans who have seen it.

Now, everyone will be able to experience Stranger Things: The First Shadow as Collider has confirmed the play is being professionally filmed by Netflix for a future release.

Collider reports that a week of performances on Broadway have been cancelled from Tuesday 10 February to Saturday 14 February to facilitate filming taking place.

The production, which picked up four Tony Awards, will feature the original Broadway cast, including Irish actor Louis McCartney, who originated the role of Henry Creel on the West End.

Supporting cast members include Grey's Anatomy star T.R. Knight as Victor Creel, Gabrielle Nevaeh as Bob Newby's sister Patty, and Alex Breaux as Dr Brenner. Breaux also appeared in season five as Lieutenant Robert Akers.

No release date for the filmed version of Stranger Things: The First Shadow has been announced yet.

Set in Hawkins in 1959, the play follows teenage Henry and his family as they arrive in the town looking for a fresh start.

"Everything changes when he meets Patty, a fellow outsider, and their budding romance gives Henry hope for the first time," the show's synopsis continues.

"But when a wave of shocking crimes strikes the town, Henry is forced to confront a terrifying truth: is something inside him that connects him to the horrors unfolding around him?"

Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are streaming on Netflix. A fifth and final season is in production.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow is now booking until 7 September 2025 at the Phoenix Theatre in London. Tickets are available now.
