The upcoming Malcolm in the Middle revival series has dropped its first trailer, giving fans a glimpse at Frankie Muniz and Bryan Cranston in their respective roles as Malcolm and Hal.

Set for release on Hulu and Disney Plus on 10 April, the four-part series sees Jane Kaczmarek reprise her role as family matriarch Lois, while original cast members Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield reprise their roles as Malcolm's older brothers Francis and Reese, respectively.

Joining the cast for the reboot are Anthony Timpano, who will play Malcolm’s youngest brother Jamie, and Vaughan Murrae, who stars as Malcolm's youngest non-binary sibling Kelly.

The synopsis for the revival reads: "After shielding himself from his family for over a decade, Malcolm (Muniz) is dragged back into their orbit when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence at their 40th anniversary party."

As the new trailer shows, Malcolm gets sucked back into his dysfunctional family life after Lois explains that "Malcolm has intentionally been hiding himself from this family for years".

"My life is fantastic now. All I had to do is stay away from my family," Malcolm explains as the trailer opens.

If the trailer for the four-part series, officially titled Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair, is anything to go by, it looks as though the revival is set to be full of chaotic adventures for Malcolm's entire family.

Earlier this year, it was announced that a major role was being recast for the revival, with Caleb Ellsworth-Clark playing younger brother Dewey, taking over from Erik Per Sullivan, who retired from acting when he was 18.

Taking to the YouTube comment section to remark on the first trailer, fans shared their disappointment that Dewey had been recast, with one fan writing: "All we're missing is the original Dewey."

"They shouldn't have replaced the original Dewey with just another actor; I would have preferred a justified absence of the character," penned another fan.

"My childhood memories just came flooding back....I wish Dewey would be in the show," one viewer commented, with another writing: "I do notice we don’t see the new actor for Dewey though, hopefully he pulls it off."

Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair is set for release on Hulu and Disney Plus on 10 April.
