The Testaments, the sequel series to The Handmaid’s Tale, has cast a major leading role.

The upcoming series, based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel, is set 15 years after the events of its predecessor. The novel is narrated by Aunt Lydia, a character from the previous novel; Agnes, a woman living in Gilead; and Daisy, from Canada.

With The Handmaid’s Tale set to begin its concluding run next month with its sixth and final season, work is firmly underway on its follow-up series, with Deadline reporting that Blue Jean star Lucy Halliday has joined the cast as Daisy.

Halliday will appear alongside the previously announced Chase Infiniti and Ann Dowd, the latter of whom reprises her role as Aunt Lydia. The plot sees the trio’s fates “become intertwined as they uncover the secrets of Gilead and the resistance against its regime”.

Dowd, who has appeared in all six seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale, previously shared her thoughts on The Testaments back in 2019, sharing that she was “thrilled” by some of the revelations regarding her character.
