The Handmaid's Tale has confirmed the final season's premiere date alongside a trailer, just days after a big behind-the-scenes update.

The dystopian drama, which first premiered in 2017, is due to wrap up its six-season run very soon, over two years after season 5 concluded.

Hulu has now announced that the show will return on April 6, also dropping a thrilling trailer that teases a big uprising.

"They believed that these garments that they put on our bodies told the world who we are," Elisabeth Moss's June narrates over clips of the handmaids.

"To mark us, they put us in red – the colour of blood. They forgot that it's also the colour of rage. The dress became our uniform, and we became an army."

We then get a glimpse at characters such as Serena (Yvonne Strahovski), Luke (O-T Fagbenle) and Moira (Samira Wiley) as the handmaids enter a church, with a tease of "something big" that's about to happen.

The handmaids also prepare switchblades as the trailer promises that "the revolution is here".

The preview comes a few days after Fagbenle revealed on Instagram that filming had wrapped on the final episodes.

Sharing a series of sweet behind the scenes pictures with his castmates, he wrote: "THAT'S A WRAP on the final season of Handmaids! It’s coming soon! Any predictions?"

Announcing the show's conclusion in 2022, show boss Bruce Miller said: "It has been a true honour to tell the story of Margaret Atwood’s groundbreaking novel and the chillingly relevant world, and we are thrilled to bring viewers a sixth and final season of The Handmaid’s Tale."

The Handmaid's Tale returns on April 6 Hulu in the US. The show airs on both Channel 4 and Prime Video in the UK.
