The untitled HBO series featuring Steve Carell has landed a new star, with Carry-On’s Danielle Deadwyler joining the cast.

The comedy show, which was announced back in May, sees Carell play an author who struggles to connect with his daughter (played by Charly Clive), with the action being set on a university campus.

According to Deadline, Deadwyler - who starred as Elena Cole in Netflix thriller Carry-On - has now joined the cast, with the actor set to play a poetry professor and published writer who “has an instant rapport” with Carell’s character.

Deadwyler joins the previously-announced Carell, Clive and Phil Dunster in the 10-part series, which is being written by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses. Carell will also serve as an executive producer on the series alongside Lawrence, Tarses, Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer.

“HBO has long been a standard bearer of quality TV,” said Lawrence - who co-created Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso - of the untitled project. “Getting to do a show there with Steve Carell is an immediate career highlight for Matt and me. Nothing can go wrong now.”
