Benoist will play the Kryptonian hero Kara Zor-El in the series, with original Supergirl movie star Slater cast in a mysterious role.

Other DC Comics characters featured in Supergirl include Laura Benanti as Kara's mother Alura Zor-El, Calista Flockhart as media tastemaker Cat Grant, David Harewood as government official Hank Henshaw and Mehcad Brooks as a new version of Superman's pal Jimmy Olsen.
Supergirl is being targeted to premiere next season on CBS, with a potential crossover with Arrow and The Flash also possible.
