Supergirl star Eve Ridley has waxed lyrical on co-star Milly Alcock, saying the House of the Dragon actor isn't given "enough credit". Directed by Craig Gillespie, the stand-alone Supergirl movie follows Alcock in the title role after her debut cameo in 2025's Superman starring David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan.

Ridley, who plays the role of Ruthye Marye Knoll in Supergirl, talked to Digital Spy about her movie debut and her friendship with Alcock, who she branded "incredible".

"She's like a big sister to me. I love her so much. She's so talented. She's such an amazing actress. I mean, people don't give her enough credit," she said.

"She's just up there. She is so kind. She's so caring. I got her number, so we still stay in touch, which is lovely. And I'm so happy for her, this is her big movie."

Written by Ana Nogueira, first reactions to the film has hailed as the "best blockbuster of the summer" and sees Kara Zor-el aka Supergirl summoned by Ruthye to avenge the death of her father.

Ridley said the experience of being in such a hotly-anticipated movie was "so surreal" and "a bit scary".

"I mean, it's at IMAX, so when I watched it at a fan screening, my face was like this big, and I was like, 'Whoa'. But it's so exciting, and it's just great to be in this environment," she said.

Meanwhile, director Gillespie opened up on the moment he realised that Alcock was the perfect fit for Supergirl.

"Literally, wildly, it was day one. We're doing the scene where she's drinking in the bar. It's a very complex scene because she's lonely, she's homesick, but there's a lot of humour in it, there's a lot of recklessness in it, and she's doing it all drunk,' the director said.

"We were shooting this scene, and I was with my AD [Alex Oakley] that I did Cruella with, and after about halfway through the day, the performance and what she was giving us, we looked at each other and we were like, 'Oh, this is going to be awesome'."

Supergirl is released in UK cinemas on 25 June, and in US cinemas on 26 June.
