Paramount Plus has unveiled the first trailer for new drama series Dexter: Original Sin, starring Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Sarah Michelle Gellar.
The prequel follows a young Dexter Morgan, played by Shadow and Bone's Patrick Gibson, as his bloodthirsty urges begin to impact his student life.
With the guidance of his dad Harry (Christian Slater), Dexter adopts a Code that is designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society – all while interning at the Miami Metro Police Department.
The ten-episode series will premiere on the streaming service on Friday, December 13.

The thrilling trailer sees Harry explain the importance of following the iconic Code, saying: "[It] is to make sure that you are different from the people that you kill."

Dexter soon begins his killing spree, tracking down "bad guys" who escaped justice, while not getting caught himself.
"If anyone knows how powerful urges can be, it's me," he said, with Harry adding: "Trust me, you stay the course, you'll be fine."
We are then introduced to several new characters, including Dexter's boss Tanya Martin (Gellar) and homicide officer Aaron Spencer (Patrick Dempsey), who is determined to find the serial killer.

Dexter soon begins to hone his skills with help from his colleagues, while trying to keep a low profile.
"You've got to blend in," Harry explained. "One wrong move, you ruin your life, your sister's, mine."
"This is who I am, who I need to be," Dexter responded. "Learning my code was just the beginning, bringing it to life for the first time is a whole new story."
Original Sin has been created by Dexter showrunner Clyde Phillips, and boasts a star-studded cast that includes Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Reno Wilson and Alex Shimizu.

Joe Pantoliano, Brittany Allen, Carlo Mendez, Randy Gonzalez, Raquel Justice, Aaron Jennings, Jasper Lewis, Isaac Gonzalez Rossi and Roberto Sanchez will also appear as recurring characters.
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, lead actor Gibson previously opened up about stepping into Michael C Hall's iconic role.
"I'm not sure if I'm fully prepared for this because I don't know what's to come," he said. "I'm hoping I can bring some of myself to this character while also honouring what he did."
Dexter: Original Sin will premiere on Paramount+ on Friday, December 13.
