Joshua Jackson has responded to a wild fan theory about his Disney+ show Doctor Odyssey.

The medical drama, created by American Horror Story's Ryan Murphy, stars Jackson as Max Bankman, a new doctor working on-board a luxury cruise ship called The Odyssey.

Along with the ship's nurses Avery Morgan (Phillipa Soo) and Tristan Silva (Sean Teale), Dr Max handles unique and challenging medical cases at sea, whilst also navigating tricky co-worker relationships.

However, if that wasn't complicated enough, some fans have speculated about a hidden plot twist, which would add another layer to the show.

In a Reddit thread, one viewer speculated that Dr Max and everyone else on the ship are "stuck between life and death" in a kind of purgatory.

"When the doc and his crew save a life, that person passes on," they suggested, adding: "In a recap before episode two, they edit together the captain literally saying, 'This ship is a dream. It's your job to keep everyone alive."

The first six episodes of Doctor Odyssey are currently available to watch on the streaming service. However, with season one still in production, Jackson isn't ruling out a last-minute plot twist.

When questioned about the fan theory, the actor shared that he would be open to a sci-fi narrative. "I think it's fair to say we don't know, right?" he told Radio Times.

"The only brain that has the answer to that question is Ryan [Murphy]. However, as a fan of science fiction, if that is where we go, I fully support it."

Doctor Odyssey is available to watch now on Disney+.
