Marvel's Moon Knight spoilers follow.
Moon Knight producers have revealed that a key character from one of Marvel's Disney+ shows was cut from season 1.
The initial run of episodes of the Marvel series features the love story between Marc Spector (Oscar Isaac) and the dashing adventurer Layla El-Fouly (May Calamawy), but this wasn't always the love interest show bosses had in mind for Moon Knight.

During an appearance on the House of R podcast this week, Moon Knight producer Jeremy Slater revealed that Marvel originally envisioned Echo as the leading female character in the show.
Any fans of the Disney+ shows will remember that Alaqua Cox played the assassin in Hawkeye last year, but in another realm of the Multiverse, she would have been introduced in Moon Knight instead.
"At the time, Echo was going to be our love interest, solely based on the fact that they knew Marvel liked the character of Echo and was trying to find a show to put her in," the producer confirmed.

Although Echo has been romantically intertwined with Marc Spector in Marvel lore, Jeremy Slater and the Moon Knight team ultimately understood when Marvel felt Echo worked better in Hawkeye.
"She didn't work at all for the story we were telling. [Marvel] were like, 'You know what, we've got this Hawkeye show and we feel like she would fit in a lot better there…' and we were like, 'Oh, thank God.'"
Echo proved to be such a big hit in Hawkeye that she will be getting her own Disney+ show – one that could incorporate the larger world of Daredevil after the tie-ins Marvel included during her previous outing.
Moon Knight is now streaming on Disney+, with new episodes every Wednesday.
