Superman & Lois brings in Supergirl character for season 2

Supergirl star Jenna Dewan is headed over to spin-off show Superman & Lois.

Dewan will be reprising her role as Lois Lane's younger sister Lucy, after previously playing the role in Supergirl's first season (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Lucy had a rivalry with Clark Kent's cousin Kara Danvers in Supergirl when they both had feelings for James Olsen, though they ultimately forged an alliance because of their respect for J'onn J'onzz.

It has been several years since viewers have caught up with Lucy, so her life could be quite different when she turns up in Smallville to reunite with sister Lois and brother-in-law Clark.

Jenna Dewan joining Superman & Lois is an overt connection with Supergirl, in spite of Arrowverse bosses previously trying to distance the two shows.

Earlier this year, producer Todd Helbing explained that his team originally planned to directly tie the Super-Cousins' shows together with references but had to scrap them because of COVID filming restrictions.

"It got cut out for time, but when Lois quits [The Daily Planet] and she's walking down the hall towards the elevator and she grabs some things from her desk, one of the things she's holding is a picture with her, Kara and Clark," Helbing told TVLine.

"There's been this weird set of circumstances where, because of production or timing or COVID, everything in the show that was related to the Arrowverse has gotten pulled out. It's just another one of those things."

With Supergirl set to conclude its final season next month, let's hold out hope we see the cousins crossing paths at least once more before the end.

Superman & Lois airs on The CW in the US. A UK release date has not yet been confirmed.
