Snowfall actor Kwame Patterson has revealed why he left the FX crime drama earlier than anticipated.

Patterson was handed the role of Vietnam War veteran turned bodyguard Lurp in season 4 after a chance meeting with showrunner Dave Andron, but when COVID-19 halted the shooting of episode 4, Patterson's availability altered considerably.

The series David Makes Man came calling, which was going to resume production around the same time as Snowfall.

"For me, it was a no-brainer between David Makes Man and Snowfall," Patterson told TVLine.

"I've played gangsters and drug dealers on TV all the time. But David Makes Man gave me a chance to step into a role with a different perspective, nuance and emotion and it has given me a chance to show the world that I could do something different."

As for how the actor broke the news to the team at Snowfall, he shared that he "reached out... so that they already knew ahead of time" and revealed that "they rewrote the scene with [his] character Lurp telling Franklin, 'I can't be in this world anymore.'"

He added: "Then I flew out to Florida and I told them I was taking my talents to South Beach." And the rest, as they say, is history.

Snowfall airs on FX in the US, whilst David Makes Man is over on the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
