Snowfall star Melvin Gregg has taken an entirely "different" direction with his latest role in the TV adaptation of Liane Moriarty's Nine Perfect Strangers.
Ahead of the show's premiere on Amazon later this month, Melvin sat down for an exclusive chat with Digital Spy about the relationship between his Nine Perfect Strangers character and the likes of Snowfall's Drew 'Manboy' Miller.
And this time, the "bravado" has gone.
Opening up about the upcoming project, which also stars Nicole Kidman and Melissa McCarthy, Melvin explained: "It's very different [to a lot of what I've done previously].

"A lot of my characters have a lot of bravado and Ben, he doesn't. He has insecurities. He's carrying a lot of weight on his shoulders and that translates into his demeanour."

The actor also spoke about his on-screen relationship with Samara Weaving, who plays Ben Chandler's wife Jessica. "He's someone who has a lot going on internally, and a lot of it is with his wife. He has a partner," Melvin said.
"In a lot of my other projects – Snowfall, American Vandal – there was never a partner involved. It was just me and my character. So I think it's very different."
Promising an emotional ride for Ben and Jessica at Masha's wellness retreat, Melvin added: "When you have the responsibility for someone else's emotions, you have to show empathy and care for someone else, so I definitely think that's a difference between Ben and my other characters."

Nine Perfect Strangers, based on Liane Moriarty's novel of the same name, follows a group of nine strangers (funny that), who are called to a boutique health-and-wellness resort for a 10-day retreat.
"Watching over them during this 10-day retreat is the resort's director, Masha, a woman on a mission to reinvigorate their tired minds and bodies," the official synopsis reads.
"However, these nine 'perfect' strangers have no idea what is about to hit them."
The first three episodes of Nine Perfect Strangers launch on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, August 20, with new episodes launching weekly.
