The Umbrella Academy spoilers follow.
Although The Umbrella Academy's first season ended on a rather explosive note, there's no need to grieve the Hargreeves just yet. When we last saw the family, they had just narrowly escaped the apocalypse thanks to Five's special powers, but what remains to be seen is where or when our heroes ended up.
Thanks to all the promotional material Netflix has released so far, it's safe to say that the siblings have travelled to another time rather than another place. Unfortunately, fans have a little while to wait still before the group's true destination is revealed in season two.
What to Read Next
In the meantime, The Umbrella Academy has unveiled its first official look at the second season with a batch of new character posters. At first glance, they don't seem to reveal much. Each character is partially obscured by an umbrella which hides their individual faces.
However, diehard fans might have spotted a few clues which hint at what's in store for our heroes... and no, we're not talking about the random "pubic hair" Easter egg that did the rounds recently.
In fact, these posters contain one detail in particular which will break the heart of anyone who fell in love with Klaus back in season one.
At first, the resident sad boi of the group won us over with his eccentric style and eerie ability to speak with ghosts, but it wasn't until Episode Six, 'The Day That Wasn't', that the true depth of his character came to light.
Due to reasons far too convoluted to explain here, we learn that Klaus was once accidentally transported back in time to the Vietnam War in 1968. During this "visit," Number Four fell in love with a soldier named Dave. The pair started a relationship in secret, but during a fight on the battlefield, Dave died in Klaus' arms.
For some reason, Number Four is unable to communicate with Dave, even though his special gift usually enables him to speak with the dead. As the season progressed, viewers came to realise that Robert Sheehan's character never really recovered from the double-pronged nature of this loss.
When the moon starts to crumble at the very end of season one, Klaus can even be seen clutching Dave's tags, which he kept hold of this whole time. Faced with the prospect of his own death, Klaus' first reaction is to think of his beloved, thinking that they would finally be reunited once the apocalypse hits.
However, as we now know, this didn't happen, because Number Five saved the family from certain death in the very last moments of season two. That doesn't mean Dave won't be on Klaus' mind in season two though.
In fact, once you get past Number Four's new hair and that lewk, you'll see that those very same dog tags are proudly worn centre stage in Klaus' poster. Does this mean that still there's hope for "Klave" in the future? (or past, depending on how you approach this?)
Well, in a world where time travel and gorilla arms are the norm, truly anything is possible. Season one hinted that there's more to Number Four's power than was first revealed, so it seems likely that he'll eventually find a way to reconnect with Dave. Let's just hope that he manages this in life and not death.
Unfortunately, between all the new characters heading our way and whatever the hell's going on with Five in his poster, it looks like apocalypses won't be the only thing the Hargreeves need to worry about in season two.
The Umbrella Academy season 2 arrives on Netflix on July 31.
